Star of the Seas – Royal Caribbean’s New Icon Class Ship

The anticipation is palpable as Royal Caribbean reveal that their next game-changing Icon Class holiday experience will be named Star of the Seas. She is set to dazzle. With less than 100 days to the unveiling of the pioneering Icon Class vessel, Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International has announced the name of its sibling ship, launching in the summer of 2025.

The Iconic Reveal

The world’s largest cruise line is gearing up to redefine holidaying at sea with Icon’s debut, and plans to follow up in the boldest fashion. By combining all of the epic holiday styles exclusive to the Icon Class — be it the serene beach getaway, luxury resort experience, or exhilarating theme park thrills — Star promises a plethora of old and new delights for families and adventurers alike. The ship is in the works in Turku, Finland, and we can expect an insider look at its offerings soon.

Michael Bayley, the CEO of Royal Caribbean International, said,

The idea of combining the best of every type of vacation into one ultimate adventure has created more excitement than ever anticipated, and Star of the Seas will be the next bold answer to the record-breaking consumer demand we’ve seen for nearly a year and counting with Icon of the Seas

Icon’s Reception

When the world got its first glimpse of Icon and its class in October 2022, it led to an all-time high in bookings for the 53-year-old brand. This astounding demand prompted the release of cruise itineraries for 2025-2026 on Icon ahead of time, and now, the announcement of Star‘s launch season. Among Icon’s features are six record-setting slides at Thrill Island’s waterpark; no less than 7 pools (one for every day of the week!); Surfside – a hub for young families; a spectrum of entertainment across air, ice, water & stage; over 40 options for dining and drinking; and so much more.

Furthermore, Star signifies a significant environmental milestone. It will be the third ship in the fleet to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG) – the greenest marine fuel currently available. Coupled with top-tier environmental initiatives onboard, from waste heat recovery to shore power connection, it underscores Royal Caribbean’s commitment to sustainability. It aligns with the parent company’s aim of rolling out a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.

Stay tuned for more specifics on Star, which will be disclosed at a later date.
