Cruise experts Jayne and Jenny, and Olivia from Marketing took to Liverpool Port to get you the inside scoop on what it’s really like on Ambassador Cruise Line’s ship, Ambition. Even though this tour was just for the day, they accepted the challenge of finding out as much as possible about the ship so you can see exactly everything an Ambassador cruise has to offer. Here’s what Olivia had to say about their investigative trip…
Ambition can hold up to 1200 guests and it sails from 8 regional ports, including Liverpool. Despite being a relatively small ship, when you’re walking around it still feels really spacious and, with extremely cosy decor, you immediately feel right at home. We started our day with a brief talk about Ambassador Cruise Line and found out that they have some brand new fly cruise Caribbean journeys on Renaissance – all including flights with Virgin Atlantic. These itineraries start from October 2025 so we can all ditch the winter blues for some affordable winter sun!
Home Suite Home
We kicked off our investigative work with one of the most important questions – What are the cabins and suites like?
Considering this is the place you’ll be retiring to each night it is arguably one of the most important places on the ship. We started off with an Ocean View Cabin and already we were pleasantly surprised. It had a great sized double bed, a spacious bathroom and ample storage space. Despite being one of the smaller sized cabins you can book, it still felt generous enough in size that you didn’t feel cramped or like you would be tripping over anything trying to move around.
Next up was a Suite. Now, not to sound like a typical marketeer but genuinely these rooms are worth the upgrade. Not only do you get more space but you also have the perks of your own balcony, a sofa bed, ample ensuite facilities and all suites include priority embarkation and luggage delivery.
However, if you’re really in the mood to treat yourself, we saw the perfect suite for you – the Deluxe Suite. Along with the benefits that come with all suites, this suite not only has a double bed, but it also has a double sofa bed that can accommodate a third and/or fourth guest. It also comprises a walk-in wardrobe and a separate lounge area, a second flat-screen television in the bedroom, and a chargeable mini bar.
There was definitely a cabin that would suit everyone and all preferences.
Decked out: Exploring the ship’s facilities
Next on our agenda was scoping out everything you can do when you’re not relaxing in your cabin. Ambition has a number of different lounges where you can socialise, have a few drinks and listen to live music.
If you fancy something a little quieter and cosy, the library is equipped with compelling stories and several games. The Pool Bar and Consulate Bar are the perfect places to soak up sunrays and enjoy your favourite drinks. Another great spot is the Purple Turtle Wine Bar which is perfectly located near The Palladium – Ambition’s very own theatre. The shows here are West-End level performances, and completely unique to Ambassador so even the most avid cruisers are guaranteed to see something new.
Unwind in the Green Sea Spa and enjoy a level of pampering that is made to elevate your getaway. Or get your pulse racing in the gym and then rest those muscles in the steam room or sauna. Overall the ship is laid out to make you feel like you’re right at home, to the point where even solo travellers would feel like they were amongst friends. We even found out that there are actually secret messages all around the ship hidden in the artwork, but I won’t spoil the fun and tell you what they say. You’ll have to use your own investigative skills to de-code them yourselves.
Spilling the beans on all things dining
Our final test for Ambition was a big one… what is the food like?
We got to look around the dining venues on board and each spot had a lovely amount of character and cuisine options. Although we didn’t dine in Saffron, it deserves a special mention. It is a speciality Asian restaurant and boasts a very intimate setting. As we walked through, a staff member had some dishes on a cart and the aroma that filled the room was so magnificent I almost stole a plate right off the cart! Luckily for me, we were then taken to Holyrood Restaurant for a sit down lunch.
We were greeted with amazing service throughout our meal. The starter set the tone for an excellent meal, with exquisite prawn cocktails and decadent salads. Then, the main event… Jayne and Jenny tucked into a hearty beef dish and I enjoyed a cauliflower dish that exceeded my expectations completely. By this point we were feeling very full but of course there is always room for dessert. With two sticky toffee puddings and a creme brulee going down an absolute treat, this research on everything Ambassador has to offer was feeling like a success.
Our final review
Ambassador Cruise Line pride themselves on providing affordable quality to their customers and this day showed us exactly that. The food was delicious, the cabins were cosy and comfortable, and there was plenty to do. The crew members were all so lovely and spoke about how they always try to get to know their passengers so that there is always a warm and familiar face on board. As we were leaving the ship, there were passengers who had embarked for the next getaway sat in one of the lounges. Already, I saw a few making new friends and getting to know their fellow passengers and this just really embodied the Ambassador experience.
If you’re looking for great quality, a friendly atmosphere and feeling at home even when you’re away from home then you should try Ambassador Cruise Line. To find your perfect Ambassador cruise give our team a call or find your next getaway here.
