Royal Caribbean International has revealed that music legend Diana Ross will serve as the godmother of its newest ship, Star of the Seas. The global icon will officially name the vessel at a celebratory event in Port Canaveral, Florida, in 2025, marking a “supreme” moment for the cruise line.
Diana Ross joins a legacy of inspiring women who have been chosen as ship godmothers, a maritime tradition dating back centuries. As part of the ceremony, she will bless Star of the Seas, symbolically bestowing good fortune and safe travels upon the ship and all who sail on her.
The announcement arrives as Royal Caribbean prepares to launch Star of the Seas in August 2025. As the second ship in the Icon Class, the vessel promises to be a showstopper. Designed for families and adventurers alike, the ship will feature a blend of firsts and Royal Caribbean favourites, including the all-day neighbourhood Surfside, the record-breaking Category 6 waterpark, and a reimagined AquaDome with panoramic ocean views and dramatic performances. Guests can expect standout experiences that elevate every moment at sea – no mountain too high, no ocean too wide, and no valley low enough to stop the excitement onboard!
